The Oregon coastal units have some of the best Roosevelt elk hunting in the world. Roosevelt Elk hunting in Oregon in the month of November can be the hunt of a live time. Glassing old logged off areas and hunting the benches in the timber are the popular methods. Much of the coastal hunting units are owned by private landowners and private timber companies. Oregon hunting guides and outfitters lease these lands for guiding. There are two species of elk in Oregon are Rocky Mountain and Roosevelt. The Roosevelt is the largest of the two species and a mature bull can often exceed 1200 pounds. Roosevelt Elk in Oregon are big animals. Because there is a limited number of rifle hunts available you must book early. The tags for hunting with your rifle are also limited and you must be a successful applicant in the drawing process. But, if you book early in the year there are landowner preference tags and outfitter tags available. Certified Oregon guides and outfitters have the opportunity to market non-resident hunting tags.
